Californian’s Stand Against Human Trafficking
I would like to thank you for sending letters of support for Senator Seyarto’s Senate Bill 1219, which addresses the harmful effects of Senator Scott Wiener's Senate Bill 357. Wiener's bill decriminalized loitering, which has contributed to an increase in human trafficking in California.
We have another opportunity to support Senate Bill 1219 (SB 1219) by attending Senate Public Safety Hearing at the State Capitol on April 2, 2024 at 8:30 a.m., 1021 O Street, room 2200. We are asking for those especially from San Francisco and San Mateo County to attend as Senator Scott Wiener is a sitting member of this committee.
Equally important, Senator Shannon Grove is asking for support as she introduces Senate Bill 1414 (SB 1414), which would make it a felony to solicit, agree to engage in or engage in any act of commercial sex with a minor. Last year, Senator Grove introduced Senate Bill 14 -- a historic piece of legislation Governor Newsom signed into law -- which makes human trafficking of a minor a serious felony and strikable offense. Senator Grove asks you to join in the continued fight against human trafficking by submitting your letters supporting SB 1414 to the Senate Public Safety Committee through the portal https://calegislation.lc.ca.gov/Advocates/. The Chair and Committee membership are as follows:
Senator Aisha Wahab (D-Hayward), Chair
Senator Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta), Vice-Chair
Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena)
Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley)
Senator Scott D. Wiener (D-San Francisco)
The deadline for letters of support to reach the Senate Public Safety Committee is Friday, April 5, 2024.
