Just Open the Great Highway
Our city’s leaders are pushing another harmful policy with Prop K, the proposal to permanently close the Upper Great Highway to drivers and commuters. This misguided plan will create more problems than it solves and directly harm our neighborhoods.
I am strongly opposed to Prop K because of its negative impact on our communities. Here’s why:
What does Prop K mean for us?
The Status Quo is Working: The current arrangement provides a balance, with the Great Highway open to weekday commuters and closed on weekends for recreation. There’s no need for a permanent closure when we already have a solution that works for everyone.
Increased Traffic: The Great Highway is essential for north-south travel through the Westside. Closing it permanently to drivers/commuters will lead to traffic bottlenecks on Sunset Blvd, 19th Avenue, and neighborhood streets, hurting families and seniors and increasing air pollution.
No Funding for Promised Park: Prop K promises a new park, but there’s no plan nor funding for its construction or maintenance. Given our proximity to Golden Gate Park, this project is redundant and will drain valuable city resources.
Meanwhile, my opponent, Scott Wiener, continues to support policies like Prop K that ignore the needs of everyday San Franciscans in favor of impractical projects.
I stand with the families of The Sunset and The Richmond. Together, we can protect our neighborhoods from increased traffic, preserve the current balanced approach, and stop wasteful spending.
Vote NO on Prop K to ensure our community’s needs are prioritized.
Please also consider making a donation today to support our fight against failed policies like those that created Prop K. With a donation of any amount, we can bring the common sense leadership San Francisco needs.
