We Must Always Stand Together Against Discrimination
Some really disheartening news has come out about FEMA’s discrimination against our fellow Americans, and I felt the need to speak out against it.
Recently, FEMA worker Marni Washington had directed her team to avoid helping certain houses in Florida based on visible political signs and viewpoints. She had been fired, but according to her own words this was a policy enacted by FEMA leadership.
During a crisis, we rely on our government to put politics aside and focus on saving lives and helping those who are in need. Natural disasters do not discriminate, so neither should the agencies responsible for aiding recovery.
Every American deserves support, regardless of their political beliefs. As a nurse and a mother, I have made the commitment to be there for others. The role of public service should always rise above divisions.
I condemn this type of behavior from our federal government, and I hope the incoming administration can and will put a stop to this type of selective assistance. If we only serve our communities when they align with our politics, then we have done a great disservice to our country.
I will continue to speak out against practices that divide us and advocate for policies that restore a standard of care and respect for all.
Please consider sharing this message if you agree that our government should be held accountable for FEMA’s abandonment of our fellow Americans. Thank you for your continued support in our cause.
We should always stand up for the values that unite us and advocate for policies that restore integrity and common sense to government services.
Sincerely,
